"Portrait of Robbie" was painted at the Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure Museum & Zoo (Salina, Kansas) during the 49th annual Society of Animal Artists show. Sculptors Paul Rhymer and Roger Martin went with me into the zoo and met Robbie; they sculpted in clay while I painted. I turned my easel so Robbie could watch, and he sat there absorbed in what I was doing the entire time. I later learned from the museum staff that Robbie used to paint, and they showed me one of his paintings. They're hoping that he will start to paint again after watching me.
